And my response to her article. (Follow the link to her article, read it, then go back and read mine — if you want to, or just read mine, whatever…)

I’ve decided my friend’s dad/the pastor of my parents church is the human version of Kermit the Frog.

Without knowing it, today I was able to make someone feel good.
Ok, in spite of my financial woes I’ve been bitching about, I’m feeling pretty good right now. I made cookies with Jacob last night to distract myself from the fact that Erik had left and I made them with Crisco so Beth could take some to work and her friend with a dairy allergy (or intolerance, I don’t know which)...

I am so frustrated by my lack of finances and I’m apparent inability to get a part time/temporary job. This is currently the biggest headache in my life. I have bills that I am shortly not going to be able to pay because apparently I don’t interview or job hunt well or effectively. This isn’t in my skill set. This is not something I am good at doing. I don’t think I...

I have some new stuff posted on Scribd. I’d love to know what you think about it.
It’s a part of a series I’ve decided to work on that I’m calling (working title) Stories About Women. It’s a collection of, gasp, stories about women.

I quite like No. 2’s “Your Gorgeous” by Babybird even though the lyrics are creepy as fuck, the music is poppy and fun.

I fucking loved this book and think you all should read it. But don’t take my word for it…

Apparently I'd like to write a lot....
I’d like to write a little about what Antediluvian By Choice wrote:
“We need men , not adult adolescents. We should expect our boys to mature. We should feel it’s safe to send our daughters to school functions and parties and have them return intact in spirit and body.”
*Emphasis mine.
I work with Middle Schoolers, I know what adolescent and pre-adolescent boys are like. I...

Bookstore/Cafe
Yes, Courtney, you will be there!
ps. My sister sporadically comes up with more literary-themed names for pastries and cookies and such. I should make her write them all down for us…

Alright, so, when I open my bookstore/cafe that caters to the community, late night patrons and readers of all kinds, there is going to be a graffiti wall in the hallway with markers and books in the toilet for lite reading material while on the can. Cause who doesn’t read in the loo?

Write about city kids getting lost in the woods.
HA! I’m already doing this. I’m writing about my job….
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve had an inner-city, sassy-pants black girl tell me “I hate nature!” and spritz bug spray at an insect, I wouldn’t be worried about going broke right now…

Scientists call it the Naked Photo Test, and it works like this: say a photo turns up of you nakedly doing something that would shame you and your family for generations. Bestiality, perhaps. Ask yourself how many people in your life you would trust with that photo. If you’re like the rest of us,…
This is really interesting and illustrates the reasons I hate texting. I...

This is what needs to happen next in 2012:
+ I get the p/t job at the bookstore
+ I work in RI for the Spring
+ I get the day camp job and a place to live over the summer down the Cape
+ I work another season at NC in the Fall (ideally in RI with Erik this time)
+ I don’t have to worry too much about next winter’s employment

Line for a future story:
“If you want anything to eat, don’t look in the fridge. The only things in there are a couple of batteries, some nail polish and a bottle of white wine from god knows when. The cupboards are pretty bare, too. You’re better off ordering from Han Lao’s and being sexually harassed by Han’s teenage son, Andy, when you go to pick it up.”

Literary Bex
I love setting up book queues at Literary Bex. It makes me feel accomplished. Even though I’m still in my pajamas, not wearing a bra and haven’t showered or left the house all day I feel mightily accomplished. I feel just wonderful because I have an awesome book queue.
It’s going to be Tom Stoppard starting tomorrow afternoon for a short run, then next week sometime the...
